Hackney Seed Swap

  • Trowbridg Gardens 1 Trowbridge Road E9 5LD (map)

We are taking part in a Hackney-wide seed swap coordinated by Cordwainers Grow through the Union of Hackney Gardens over the weekend of 26-28th February. To join the seed swap here’s what you need to do:

  1. Put any spare seeds you have in an envelope. Five-ten seeds/packet is plenty.

  2. Label the envelope with your name, the type of seed and variety if you know it, where it’s from (commercial, home collected, not known etc), when collected and any information you have about how it’s grown. eg:

    • Runner bean, Scarlet Emperor. Collected from E8 2020. Tall, pretty red-flowered bean with lots of long pods. Needs lots of water.

    • Dark red beef tomato, variety unknown. Bought from Fig & Grain E8 2020. Sweet and juicy.

  3. Find your nearest seed swap point over the weekend of 26-28 Feb and leave your seed packets. Swap and grow!

Our seed swap will be open on Saturday 27th February, 11-3pm. If you have spare seeds you an also drop them off at our garden in the run up anytime between 10-4pm. Our seed swap is in the main garden at Trowbridge Gardens, 1 Trowbridge Road, Hackney Wick, E9 5LD. The garden is accessible through the gate on Chapman Road (see pictures below).

If you live in Hackney and would like some seeds and are unable to get to the seed swap let us know and we will aim to distribute left over seeds to as many people as possible.

The other gardens/growing space taking part in the seed swap are:

  • Hackney City Farm

  • St Matthew’s Church Clapton
